OfflineThe young Yale archaeologist, Hiram Bingham III, left the camp with two other members of the expedition team at ten o'clock in the morning on July 24, 1911 to continue their search for ancient Inca ruins in the Andean Mountains of Peru.
Amidst the slight drizzle of rain, they headed up stream, through the narrow valley, towards the top of the peak.

Offline…..is it possible that the valley was filled with ice and that the "stone" was slid across to Machu Picchu, is it possible that the stone was actually a more soft substance from under the ice that could easily be shaped. Some of the stones in the walls show signs of bulging as if the upper stones were set on top before it was fully "cured" or dry.
Climate change certainly could be the reason the city became nonviable, also when the ice melts the city becomes isolated.
