On 24 November 1971, a passenger sitting alone in seat 18C on Flight 305 from Portland, OR to Seattle, WA passed a note to Florence Schaffner, a flight attendant on board that Northwest Orient airline. Schaffner, at first dismissing the note as another attempt by a passenger to court her, reluctantly read it after the passengers insistence.
